Day 9

Day 9- ("Perennial" 6x8" Watercolor) I had a busy day today, being Memorial Day Weekend. I found myself drawing a perennial that my friend Jamie gave me last year. I was going to keep it as a drawing but really wanted to add color, so I decided to paint it after all. I am barely making the Day 9 deadline, by 15 minutes. I do not know the name of these flowers, but I really like them. They are orchid like, and reminded me of the Lady Slipper I painted yesterday.

Day 8

Day 8- ("Lady Slipper" 8x 10" Watercolor) Today I painted a lady slipper that was in my backyard. I noticed this morning how many were popping up! I took a picture of this with my cellphone and worked from the picture as the mosquitoes are unbearable right now at my house. I found a new reason to love my Ipad, as I was able to work right from the photograph without printing the picture. The top of the Lady Slipper looks like a lady, I thought to myself as I was painting this. They are a lovely orchid.

Day 7

Day 7- ("Don't Pop!"- 8"x10" Watercolor, Colored Pencil, Acrylic) Today was a really busy day at work and it was really hot outside. I decided to use some watercolor to start my drawing today knowing I didn't really want to work outside. I had a dream last night with bubbles in it, so I decided to incorporate them in this drawing. The watercolor spread in the middle and I immediately recognized a tree (ok, I have slight tree obsession). This reminded me of the delicate state of nature.

Day 6

Day 6- ("In Loving Memory of Ursula" 8x10" Watercolor, Acrylic, Colored Pencil) It was a beautiful day today, so I decided to sit in front of our beautiful Crab Apple tree and paint it. It was certainly challenging with an intense amount of mosquitoes. I found myself sitting on my wicker chair in front of our blooming tree, with a drawing board, company of my neighbors and lots of bug spray! This tree was planted in memory of my mother in law, Ursula. I was thinking of her as the tree looked really beautiful in full bloom.

Day 5

Day 5- ("Enchanted Forest"- 8x10" Watercolor, Colored Pencil) I have been having so much fun with this method I decided to stick with it again today. I am not sure if I will continue in this direction or try something else. I find myself anxious each day to create a new piece, in a good way. Art making is certainly meditative for me. I have realized that it is not really what I am making, but the fact that I am making some kind of art that is important to me.

Day 4

Day 4 - ("Spring Daydream" 8x10"- Watercolor, Colored Pencil) This is a continuation of the method I used yesterday. I like creating art as a reaction to watercolor. This method has been very relaxing for me. I have no expectations of the outcome, so it is a very free way of working. I think this came to me because it has been raining for the past two weeks and I am longing for the sun!

Day 3

Day 3- ("Tree of Life" 6.5x11" Watercolor, Acrylic, and Colored Pencil) Today I decided to try a really creative process of using watercolor with syran wrap to start. I used the shapes created by the watercolor and texture to inspire the drawing. I really enjoyed making this and will try another one tomorrow.

Day 2

Day 2- ("Hostas"- 8.5x 11" Pencil) I thought it would be nice to draw life today. Thankfully, we all made it through the day yesterday :).  I drew the growing hosta plants in front of my house. It was raining outside, so I sat on a chair with an umbrella above my head.

Day 1

Day 1- ("Angel" 8.5 x 11" Pencil) Today there was a "hype" of being May 21, 2011 ...the end of the world. We had a large billboard on our road for months that stated it would be "Judgement Day". I decided to draw a lawn ornament that my dad gave me. It is an Angel. I thought it would be fitting for today.
