Day 39

Day 39- "Lilies" (Pencil on watercolor paper) This is a drawing that I will paint hopefully tomorrow of lilies in our garden. The colors are really beautiful so I am anxious to see it in color.

Day 38

Day 38- " Follower" (Watercolor)

Day 37

Day 37- "Moment" (Watercolor)

Day 36

Day 36- "Ponder" (Watercolor)- I am a bit late posting these last few days as I was away for the weekend. It certainly gets really crazy keeping up with the project as days get busy!

Day 35

Day 35- "With a Little Luck!" - (Pencil) This is a drawing of a "Lucky Elephant" sculpture made out of oysters that my father gave me a few years ago.

Day 34

Day 34- "Shoot for the Stars" (Watercolor) Today was a rainy day, so I revisited the drawing from Day 32. I finally wasn't rushing today to make something. It was a nice, relaxing day! :)

Day 33

Day 33- "Mind Wander" (Watercolor) Today was another long day. I got home around 9:00pm. My attention span was little, so I grabbed the watercolors and "free painted" again. This process is interesting to me. Even though I keep changing what I am making, I see the consistent organic shapes throughout all of my work. This watercolor was sort of relaxing to me and did not require much of my concentration... hence "Mind Wander".

Day 32

Day 32- "Reach for the Stars" (Pencil on watercolor paper) Today our school had their graduation. It was another very LONG day! My sister in law Heidi recently visited her home town of Harvard, MA. This is a sculpture that is in the "Fruit Lands" in Harvard. I drew it when I got home tonight from graduation, thinking about how I have hopes for my students to "reach for the stars" as they move along in their journey of life. I hope to paint this tomorrow, or another day.

Day 31

Day 31- "Paw" (Concrete Stain on concrete) I am just posting today for yesterday and today. Wow, it has been an extremely chaotic end to the school year (as a teacher). I painted the paws going to our school last night for graduation today. This is not a great photo, as the paint was still wet! I got home from work around 8pm. I decided this would be my painting for the day as I was totally exhausted when I got home.

Day 30

Day 30- "Every Which Way"- (Watercolor) This watercolor was another I tried in this very loose, random painting technique similar to yesterday. I went mountain biking today and I think this came out subconsciously thinking about the trails we rode on.

Day 29

Day 29- "Conversation" (Watercolor) Today I went hiking and got home in the evening. I was wondering what I could possibly draw or paint. I thought to myself that I was too tired and I would wait until tomorrow. Then I thought about it again and remembered there are no "rules" in this 100 day project. I grabbed my watercolor and painted this with much ease and little time at all. When I was done I thought to myself that it looked like a conversation between two people.

Day 28

Day 28- "Wood Carving" (Pen) I decided to draw a wood carving that was in my garage. It belongs to my husband. This week has been very exhausting as the school year winds down. I gave final exams today and was cleaning out my art class. Maybe I wanted to draw this because I was so tired. I dont know.

Day 27

Day 27- "Moth on Screen" (Watercolor) I came home from work today and saw this moth on the screen of the house window. I thought it was interesting and never saw a green one like it before. A few hours later, it was still there. I realized that it must be stuck. I took a broom and carefully lifted it off the screen. At first it could not fly when it landed on the driveway. It was hopping and nothing else. I took a leaf and scooped it up and suddenly he flew away! Bittersweet.

Day 26

Day 26- "Two Special Gifts"- (Snazaroo Face Paint on Stomachs) I am sorry I could not post until today, as yet again our Metrocast internet was down! They are replacing lines on our road today. Yesterday I painted my friends bellies. It was so fun. I was amazed to see how the babies were moving around as I carefully painted them. It was really amazing! I am happy they both liked them and we had a lot of laughs at the same time! (They were nice to let me post this, so thank you again!)

Day 25

Day 25- "Hand Doodle" (Snazaroo Face Paint on Hand) I wanted to try out the facepaint to practice a little before tomorrow (when I paint my friend's stomach who is pregnant). I started doodling on my hand. I was going to just wash it off but I figured I would use it for my drawing of the day. I was not thinking too much about how it was looking, but more about if I could control the paint. I realized just the slightest amount of excess water will make the paint run into the skin. With the right mix of water, this paint is amazing!

Day 24

Day 24- "Butterflies" (Pencil on textured paper) Today was a very busy day and I found myself exhausted when I got home. I wondered what to draw and I again looked into some photos I took on an adventure on day mountain biking on Gunstock Mountain. Butterflies remind of my grandmother. I would like to do more with this drawing when I have more time.

Day 23

Day 23- "Trail on Mt. major" (Watercolor) Well today I was planning our first hike of the summer up Mt. Major for next week. I was looking through some pictures I took up there and saw this one. I took this with the intention of making it into a painting, so I thought I would. I guess there is difficulty with only a few hours to "finish" the work. I do like the challenge of little time, and also the reason to paint some of the things I think about painting but do not make the time for. All in all, I like this one.

Day 22

Day 22- "Birds of Gasperilla Island" (Watercolor)

Day 21

Day 21- "Tree of Life - Sketch for Body Art"-( Watercolor) I was unable to post this yesterday because our internet was down....again! This is a sketch I created for a body art project. My friend is about 8 months pregnant and I am going to paint her belly next week. I wanted to sketch something out first to see if she likes it. I have done some face painting, but this will be the first time I have painted a belly. I hope she likes it
!

Day 20

Day 20- "Willy" (6x8" Pen, Charcoal) This is a busy week so I decided to try charcaol again. I used this odd textured paper. I am not sure I like the paper.

Day 19

Day 19- "A Few Glass Vases" (7x8" Charcoal on Canvas) It is a really hot day today and  thought it would be good to work inside, because of the unbearable weather. I decided to try an experiment on some grey unprimed canvas that was given to me. I looked around my classroom and grabbed a few glass vases off the shelf. I thought I would try a value study using acrylic paint, with just black and white. However, the unprimed canvas made this nearly impossible to paint on. I really wanted to have the grey canvas as a value so I grabbed some charcoal and this is what it ended up looking like. It is funny that I never thought of using charcoal on canvas. It was interesting to try.

Day 18

Day 18- "Clematis II"( 5x 7" Watercolor, Colored Pencil) I decided to return to my Day 15 drawing and redraw it onto watercolor paper to add color. I have been painting with watercolor even though it is a medium I hardly ever use. I do prefer acrylic paint, however watercolor is quick and allows me to finish the work in an hour or so.

Day 17

Day 17- ("Angel Sculpture"- 6x8" Watercolor, Colored Pencil) Today I took my drawing class outside to a nearby cemetary to draw. I took them there because the location is close and there was nice shade, and interesting things to draw. I decided to draw this Angel sculpture. I originally thought that I would use my drawing as my "drawing of the day". Unfortunately, a little tiny red spider crawled on my paper. I went to flick it off and unfortunately it made a mark across my drawing. I used some watercolor and redrew it. Spending only about an hour on each of these drawings is making it a bit frustrating not getting the art to the "desired effect". However, I am still enjoying the experience and hope to continue.

Day 16

Day 16 -("Self Portrait with Straight Hair" - 8.5x11"- Pencil) I am usually more drawn to drawing nature and not  people, or self-portraits for that matter, but I was inspired to draw myself today because I straightened my hair with a flat iron. For anyone who knows me, knows that I have crazy, naturally curly hair. I was interested in seeing how different I looked, so I drew this. I will stick with the curls from now on!

Day 15

Day 15- ("Clematis"- 6x8" Pencil) This weather has been amazing! We spent the past few days mountain biking. I admit I am pretty tired, so I decided to just draw today. I do like the composition of this and I may try to do something with this on another day.

Friday, June 3, 2011

Day 14

Day 14- ("Butterfly"- 8x10" Watercolor, Colored Pencil) My friend Jamie has been asking me to draw her a butterfly for a while. Today she stopped by with a butterfly shirt on! I thought, hmmm, maybe that is a hint? Anyway, we went mountain biking today and I saw many butterflies and thought that it was meant to be. The top left corner formed a face with the watercolor that kind of looked like me.

Day 13

Day 13- ("Phlox" 8x10" Watercolor, Colored Pencil)

Day 12

Day 12- ("Rhododendrum" 8x10" Watercolor, Colored Pencil) I am finally posting this for yesterday due to yet another technology set back. Blogger was not allowing me to upload pictures yesterday. For some reason on my netbook it was fine. Anyway, I am continuing on being inspired by my garden. It has truly made me happy to draw what I love to watch growing around my house.

Day 11

Day 11 -("Blooming Iris"- 8x10" Watercolor) I am certainly enjoying these little watercolor paintings from my garden! I worked on this late last night and when I went to post I realized the internet was down again! So here I am this morning at work posting for yesterday. I hope that I will be back online today. My mom gave me one iris a few years ago and I have been enjoying watching them multiply. They are just opening.
